Eight years ago, Synergy Wellness Center began with a vision for a different kind of wellness experience, one that recognized how deeply our mental, emotional and physical health are connected and how important it is to care for the people who spend so much of their lives caring for others.

That focus on caregivers of all kinds has remained an important part of who we are. Caregiving can mean raising children, supporting aging parents, working in healthcare or education, serving as first responders, caring for clients and patients, supporting a partner or family member, or simply being the person others consistently rely on. While the circumstances may look different, caregivers often have something in common: their own needs can easily move to the bottom of the list.

Over the past eight years, Synergy has grown alongside the needs of our community. We have added new services, welcomed many new therapists and wellness professionals, expanded our Hudson location to an additional floor, opened a second location in Bolton, introduced Lifestyle Medicine and Functional Medicine, brought wellness into organizations through Workplace Wellness, participated in community events and adapted through the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19.

Synergy looks different today than it did eight years ago, but the purpose behind that growth has remained remarkably consistent: creating more ways to care for the whole person.

A Wellness Center Built With Caregivers in Mind

Caregivers are often very good at noticing what everyone else needs. Recognizing and prioritizing their own needs can be much more difficult.

Stress, exhaustion and the emotional weight of caring for others do not exist only in the mind. They can affect sleep, energy, muscle tension, mood, relationships and overall well-being. Over time, constantly being responsible for other people without enough opportunities to recharge can take a significant toll.

That understanding has helped shape Synergy’s approach to integrated wellness. Caring for yourself might mean having a place to talk openly with a therapist. It might mean addressing physical tension through massage or acupuncture, reconnecting with your body through yoga and movement, or looking more closely at lifestyle factors that influence how you feel.

There is no single way to care for a caregiver because there is no single caregiving experience.

Expanding Mental Health Care and Our Team

One of the most significant parts of Synergy’s growth has been the expansion of our mental health team. Over the years, we have invited many therapists with different backgrounds, specialties, clinical approaches and areas of expertise to join our team.

Growing our Therapy team has allowed us to support more people across different ages, identities and stages of life and to provide care for a wider range of mental health needs. Anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationships, identity, chronic stress and major life transitions can influence nearly every part of someone’s life, including their physical well-being.

Mental health has always been an essential piece of whole-person wellness, and expanding our team has allowed counseling and therapy to become the largest part of the Synergy community.

Growing Into Lifestyle Medicine and Functional Medicine

As Synergy evolved, our services evolved with it. We expanded into Lifestyle Medicine and Functional Medicine, creating additional opportunities to look at health through a broader, whole-person lens, with a focus on identifying the root cause of health concerns.

Sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, physical symptoms, mental health and everyday habits do not necessarily exist independently of one another. Lifestyle and functional approaches can help people explore how different aspects of their lives may be influencing their overall well-being.

Alongside therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, meditation and our other services, this expansion brought us closer to the integrated model of wellness we envisioned: different types of support available within one community.

The goal has never been for everyone to use every service. It is to give people options and recognize that sometimes feeling better means looking at more than one piece of the puzzle.

Opening Our Second Location in Bolton, MA

Our growth initially extended beyond Hudson with another major milestone: the opening of our second Synergy Wellness Center location in Bolton, Massachusetts.

Expanding into Bolton allowed us to bring Synergy’s approach to wellness to another community while making services more accessible to people in the surrounding area.

Opening a second location represented more than physical growth. It reflected the evolution of Synergy from a single wellness center into a broader community built around the idea that mental, emotional and physical wellness deserve to be considered together.

Today, our Hudson and Bolton locations allow us to meet more people where they are while continuing to grow thoughtfully around the needs of the communities we serve.

Growing Our Hudson Wellness Center

As our team and services grew, we needed more room to grow with them. After opening in the fall of 2018 with one suite, we eventually expanded to all four suites on the 4th floor of our 45 Main Street location in Hudson.

One of the most recent milestones in Synergy’s story has been the physical expansion of our Hudson, MA wellness center to an additional floor this summer.. More space has allowed us to welcome additional providers, expand services and create more opportunities for our community to receive care and participate in wellness offerings. It also provided us with a kitchen common break area for our staff to enjoy meals, conversation and connecting with one another.

Walking through Synergy today and seeing the different providers, services and spaces throughout our Hudson location is a tangible reminder of how much has changed in eight years.

What began as a vision for integrated wellness has continued to become a larger community of clinicians, practitioners, instructors, staff and clients, all under the Synergy umbrella.

Adapting Through COVID-19

Of course, eight years of growth have not happened without challenges.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed nearly every aspect of how people lived, worked, connected and cared for themselves. It created enormous new pressures for caregivers, healthcare professionals, parents, families and workplaces, while changing how people could access many of the services they relied on.

Synergy had to adapt too.

Our team found ways to continue supporting our community during an incredibly uncertain period. The experience reinforced something that had always been central to our philosophy: wellness has to be able to meet people where they are.

COVID also changed conversations about mental health, burnout and self-care in lasting ways. Families navigated new caregiving pressures. Employers became more aware of employee well-being. Many people began paying closer attention to stress, isolation, boundaries and the relationship between their emotional and physical health.

Those lessons continue to influence the way we approach wellness today.

Taking Wellness Into the Workplace

As conversations about burnout, stress and employee well-being evolved, Synergy’s services expanded beyond our own walls with Workplace Wellness.

People do not leave their mental health, physical health or caregiving responsibilities behind when they arrive at work. Stress and burnout can affect how employees feel, communicate and function throughout the day.

Our Workplace Wellness offerings allow organizations to bring supportive wellness experiences and education directly to their teams. For workplaces filled with people who spend their days caring for patients, clients, students, customers, families and communities, creating opportunities for employees to care for themselves can be especially meaningful.

It is another extension of the philosophy that has guided Synergy from the beginning: caring for people means considering the many environments in which they live and work.

Becoming Part of the Communities We Serve

Our growth has not only happened inside our buildings.

Over the years, you may have seen the Synergy team out in the community at local events, fairs, celebrations, networking opportunities and other gatherings. Participating in these events has given us opportunities to meet our neighbors, connect with other organizations and businesses, introduce people to different wellness services and strengthen our relationships within the communities we serve.

For us, community involvement is another part of wellness. A wellness center should not feel disconnected from the people and places around it. Our owner is on the Board of the Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce, and is the former Secretary of the Hudson Business Association, among other local Chambers and wellness collaboratives.

As Synergy has grown, so has our commitment to showing up, building relationships and being an active part of the Hudson, Bolton and surrounding communities.

What Integrated Wellness Looks Like at Synergy Today

Today, Synergy Wellness Center brings together a wide range of services designed to support mental, emotional and physical well-being. Depending on someone’s individual needs, that might include counseling and mental health services, acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga and meditation, Lifestyle Medicine and Functional Medicine, health coaching, energy healing, movement-based services, groups, workshops and other wellness experiences.

These services are different, but they do not have to exist in isolation from one another. Someone may work with a therapist while also using massage to address physical tension. A person experiencing chronic stress may explore acupuncture alongside changes to sleep, movement or other daily habits. Someone may first discover Synergy through yoga and later realize another service could support something they are experiencing.

Integrated wellness is not about doing everything. It is about having options and recognizing that caring for one part of yourself can support the whole.

Eight Years of Learning, Adapting and Growing

When we look back over eight years, there are many milestones to celebrate. We have grown our mental health team, welcomed new wellness professionals, introduced Holistic Healthcare and Functional Medicine, developed Workplace Wellness, expanded onto the 4th floor and recently to another floor in Hudson, opened a second location in Bolton, participated in countless community events and navigated the challenges of a global pandemic.

But some of the most meaningful growth cannot be measured in square footage, locations, services or numbers.

It is the caregiver who finally makes an appointment for themselves. It is the client who finds a therapist they connect with. It is the person who tries acupuncture, massage or yoga for the first time. It is someone discovering a form of support they did not know was available. It is the relationships built between our team and our community and the trust people place in us when they walk through our doors.

Synergy today looks very different than Synergy did eight years ago, and we are proud of that growth.  It has allowed us to become more of what we originally hoped to create: a place where people can find different forms of support for the many interconnected parts of their lives.

Celebrating 8 Years of Synergy Wellness Center

As we celebrate our 8th anniversary, we are grateful for every person who has been part of Synergy’s story: our clients, patients, students, practitioners, therapists, instructors, staff, community partners, local businesses and everyone who has welcomed us into the Hudson and Bolton communities.

Whether you have been with Synergy since the beginning as staff or client, or are just discovering us, we invite you to explore what integrated wellness can look like in your own life. You might come through our doors for one reason and discover another way to care for yourself along the way.

Eight years later, our team is bigger, our services have expanded and Synergy has grown beyond one location and one floor. But the idea at the center of everything we do remains the same: the people who spend so much of their lives caring for everyone else deserve care, too.

Here’s to eight years of caring for the whole person, showing up for our communities, adapting to what people need and continuing to grow together.
